What is the CRAFTED IN KINDNESS Challenge?
We’re challenging everyone to help us provide handmade hats and mittens to people that may need help staying warm for the upcoming cold season. All handmade hats and mittens will be donated to community seniors in need. We know that making for others is gift enough, but for each set donated, the maker will be entered into a prize drawing.
· I want to help, but I don’t know how to make hats or mittens. That’s ok! We’ll have various sessions on November 29 for a nominal fee to help you learn along the way. Register HERE. Can’t make it on November 29? Contact us at 248-699-6489 or makerspace@fhgov.com to inquire about scheduling a sewing checkout course to make the hats/mittens.
· Do they have to be sewn hats and mittens? No! We’ll gladly accept any handmade sets whether knit, crocheted, woven, felted, etc. Our goal is handmade items rather than storebought. We know that handcrafted items are infused with love and tenderness that warm the hearts of the wearers.
· Do I have to take a workshop with you to participate in the challenge? Absolutely not! If you want to make sets from the comfort of your own home, we’re more than happy to accept your donations. Thank you!
· Can I donate more than one set? You don’t have to, but we welcome all the handmade donations you wish to make.
· What are the dates of the challenge? We’ll be launching the challenge on November 29. Donations are accepted between November 29 and December 20. The Hawk Makerspace is located on floor 2.5 of The Hawk, 29995 W. 12 Mile, Farmington Hills.
· Where are you donating the hat and mitten sets? We are partnering with The City of Farmington Hills Department of Special Services, Senior Division. The Senior Division has over 500 local seniors receiving support through their annual Adopt-a-Senior Program. Hats and Mittens will be added to their deliveries.
